I don’t agree that it’s a fail at all. It’s not the muffler that is being rigged up here. It’s only the exhaust tip. It’s not a good fix or looks nice, but it’ll work.
The bigger fail is saying that it’s a fix for the muffler.

my family always tells me the story of how my grandpa actually fixed the exhaust pipe of his old 1963 dodge van like this sometime in the 70’s. it did the trick just fine up until he had to go in for inspection. they called every inspector over to check it out and either pat him on the back, laugh about it or some combination in between. sadly they couldn’t pass him though.

This is as much a fail as the person who doesn’t know the difference between a muffler and a tailpipe.
