In Need of Shoes…

by DebbieWTR
April 10, 2012

OK don’t get your panties in a wad and start sending me all types of hate mail over this photo….READ ON FIRST…

I received this photo over a year ago from Kenya Africa, I didn’t have the heart to post it up. Well today is “One Day Without Shoes“ to spread awareness of the impact shoes can have on a child’s life. Why? Millions of children live without proper footwear, exposing them to injury and disease every day.

Lets face it just telling you about it doesn’t do much but I bet this photo sticks in your head.  Normally on Tuesdays we have a caption contest and hand out a t-shirt, not today.  What we will do is give a random fan who shares this photo a t-shirt (as a way of saying thanks) and we will also make a donation to the cause.  So help spread the word and the photo, lets take this viral and share, tweet and repin this photo to bring awareness to the cause.

derp. Leave a bit of air in the bottles, get soft soles. That advice should help more than anything right now, given that some will still wear bottles for quite a while.

Is there a way we can make a donation directly? And, sch, those bottles may not have come with tops. This is not the time or place for snarky comments. (Which this was, come to think of it. Sorry.)

@Lady Anne TOMS the organization does not take donations directly however they have partnered up with a few organizations that will take donations. You can see them here: toms.com/blog/giving (or click on my name below this comment and it will take you there)

Seems like walking on those bottles, would be more of a pain than just going barefoot

I new immediately that the pic was from Africa. Very Ingenues people. It’s a sad commentary on the state of America these days when you have to add a disclaimer. I wish I had more than SS to live on. Is there a way to send used but still good shoes?
This is how we’ll all be living if the 1% has it’s way.

    I’m donating 20 pairs today.

Just wanted to tell you about a non-profit foundation called Donate Your Old Shoes. They collect old shoes from people like you and me, then give them to the shoeless throughout the world. Do you have any old shoes you could donate? If so please visit donateyouroldshoes.org

It FINALLY makes sense….I’d heard rumor of someone actually buying a couple of bottles of Sam’s Choice diet cherry Dr. Thunder soda. Thankfully it wasn’t for consumption. You see, any material capable of containing that many chemicals, by-products, preservatives and imitation flavors has to be virtually indestructible.

The nonprofit I am working with through AmeriCorps is currently hosting a fundraiser to get our students in Florida new shoes… it’s not just a problem in Africa, unfortunately…
