Ah,maybe you need to clean off the kitchen table a little more often.
My dad wrapped last year’s Christmas presents in brown paper and duct tape.
I wrap gifts like this all the time. Newspaper and duct tape. I’ve used baling twine too. For kids gifts: the Sunday Funnies gift wrap. Haven’t bought gift wrap for years.
