Door Metal

Were not quite sure whats going on here, is the extra metal to cover the dent, seal the door or help in opening the door.  What would your guess be?

probably had to reposition the door latch to keep the door closed, the metal in that area is folded and shaped and very difficult to pull out after an accident

Extra metal? The rusty metal on the left is the spare tire mount without a tire. The stuff along the door seam, looks like tape to me.

That’s galvanized sheet metal, probably an old duct. The door is probably so caved in that it leaks, or maybe even whistles going down the road. Maybe this helps?
