Ok “Indiana”…who cares? IMO this seems like a pretty cool idea to save water when your shampooing your hair. You all DO try to save water in Indiana too right?…granted I would have used a water ball valve because of the larger handle being easier to use with soapy hands but that “gas” one I’m sure is WOG (water, oil, gas)rated.
I am SO tired of you “inspectors” making people buy crap they don’t need. BTW…I’m sure you would have been ok with one of those cheap pieces of crap water saving valves you get in the shower section of walmart.
Better than using a water valve on a gas line, I would imagine…
I’ve got the push button kind. Don’t know if it works better but if it was lying around, then it was FREE
I guess all I can say is…… so?
no more gas (fart) in the shower
Looks a bit tacky, but so what?? It’s not THAT intrusive. And if it stops gas, I’m preeety sure it’ll stop water also.
Could be they chose that particular valve, because … wait for it….. the knob! Or the way it looks.
There is a shower head called…. “Incredible Head” that has a simple on off switch on it, it only costs about six dollars and is actually a very nice shower head. Looks better and probably cheaper than this.
I am also a home inspector. I run acroos this type of stuff all the time. If you honestly think this type of repair is ok,you really are a hillbilly. How can you say “so what”?? What gives you the expert opinion to say its ok? Because I know for a fact that Indiana has inspector licensing, so this guy went through plenty of training to be able to tell this homeowner that this repair was not correct! PLEASE DONT WORK ON YOUR OWN HOUSE! Better yet, please do work on your house- you are the “white trash” that keeps me employed!
Hey Inspector, next time your out and you see repairs like this snap a few pictures and send them to us. 🙂
its definetely a substandard repair, i think thats the main point. if you want a shower head that saves water splurge the whole $5 at walmart and get one
Okay, what is wrong with this Mr Home Inspector? Please cite the code AND reason (not just the code).
are you serious redneck? if you were buying a new house and hired a home inspector, wouldn’t you want him to point this out? is this really something you want in your house? 2 problems i see with this- 1)because it looks tacky, 2) hardware stores sell both gas and water valves. do you think they do this purely because they want to make more money? NO. there are differences between the two valves. yes, they are both ball valves. but gas valves are designed for gas, water valves are designed for water. internals are slightly different
you don’t know what you are talking about! and you ARE a redneck!
…and home inspectors and code inspector are 2 separate jobs. google it!
its not hillbilly, its “rustic”!
Hey, home inspector, SCREW YOU! I’ll work on my house as I damn well PLEASE!! It’s NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS! (unless I’m trying to SELL it)
You sound a LOT like a little bit of power went straight to your over sized head! You sound like a home repair Nazi!
How DARE you tell me not to work on it!!
Exactly George! “Unless I’m tyring to SELL it”
I’m sure if you were buying a new house, you would want this at least mention to you. I think youre just a chronic complainer! I’m sure you would be one of those people that would complain to your home inspector, the first time you used your new shower, that there is a hillbilly valve on it that wasn’t reported. Its my job to point this stupid stuff out!
I don’t come to Wendy’s and tell you how to make fries!
There’s a program on the tv up here in Canada called “Holmes Inspection” and its major premise is to illustrate a lot of major structural issues that have been left by poor workmanship by builders and home repairs made by people that have now business doing them that are often COMPLETELY OVERLOOKED by so – called home inspectors so dont give me all your high and mighty attitude about being a “Home Inspector” you may have to be trained to that job where you work, but in a lot of places its not regulated at all and these clowns that call themselves “Home Inspectors” dont know their ass from page 4! I almost got taken in by one when I was looking for a home, thank God I know more about building code than that clown did or I would have lost almost $30,000. Anyway, who gives a rats ass what kind of valve is on the friggin showerhead? Show me a MAJOR ISSUE and I will be sure to do something about it before I make an offer on the place!
Yes, this is not the proper use for this valve. Gas valves are designed w/ different materials for seals due to flammable nature of gases. Water valves are designed for much higher pressures. In this case, it’s not that bad, depending on the pressure rating of this valve. A proper shower head is a better answer, but this is really more of an appearance issue than a safety one. Now, a water valve on a gas line would deserve an ass kicking! Everybody just calm down!
