Easy, but dumb. Carrying that long structure up the escalator, it’s too tall and hits the roof. Roof doesn’t give (much) and just jams the escalator until it shuts down.

George has it right. That looks like an aluminum lighting truss. Someone was either setting up the lighting for an event or tearing it down and had the bone-headed idea to stand the truss up on end going up this particular escalator.
Turned part of that white ceiling into trash. Now, it needs to be repaired. (And the escalator, too)

Would it have been too much trouble lay the thing on its side and let it ride up like that? Or, would it have been too much trouble to take a measuring tape and find out if ceiling height < length of metal? I hope whoever did this is fired because anyone that stupid should not be on anyone's payroll.
