Gun Control… Will It Help? The 23 Executive Actions

by DebbieWTR
January 16, 2013

Gun Control

Today, the president Obama is announcing that he and the administration will take these 23 “executive actions” that will take to reduce gun violence.

  1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.
  2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.
  3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.
  4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.
  5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.
  6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.
  7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.
  8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).
  9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.
  10. Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement.
  11. Nominate an ATF director.
  12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.
  13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.
  14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.
  15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies.
  16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.
  17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.
  18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.

EMBARGOED

  1. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.
  2. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.
  3. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.
  4. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.
  5. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health.

So what do you think?  Is this good or bad or worthless?

Bad and worthless. Why can’t the liberals get it through their heads that criminals do not obey laws, that is why they are criminals. Restricting firearm ownership by law abiding citizens will not stop criminals and the mentally ill from getting a firearm. Drugs are smuggled into this country by the ton every day, smuggling guns would be even easier they don’t have a smell like drugs do.

Great,, More laws and rules they won’t enforce or follow , This is kind of senseless, The disturbed and criminals will find a way to get firearms no matter what.

Cableguy, I’ve heard your arguments from gun lovers before, “These laws won’t be followed or enforced, why bother?” If you follow that logic, why bother with posting a speed limit? Or traffic laws? Or ANY laws for that matter?

I think this is not a white trash repair and belongs elsewhere.

This like all liberal agendas is not about guns or violence it’s about control. All of there little causes are about control over the weak minded stupid people. But these seemingly harmless orders are like every liberal cause just the trickle of incremental changes. Because now with out the fear of trying to be re-elected obama can and will do more to limit our gun rights. Because what he and his obamatrons will do is add a model of a gun to be outlawed not 9mm hand guns just this one 9mm hand gun. Then six months from now another model of 357 not all just one model. Then eight months later the speed loader for 9mm. The slippery slope. Remember obama said gun owners are backward ass bitter clingers.

I agree with Mike. I come here to laugh, not to read political stuff. I respectfully ask you to remove this entire post.

I agree. This is not the place to go political. Keep it up with the repairs so we can all get a good laugh.

blaming the NRA for gun deaths is like blaming the triple A for car wrecks …..

I say we start banning all cars. I mean they can be considered weapons and are deadly in the wrong hands….

And they create far more deaths than guns do every year.

    Here’s my plan:

-Ban bullet points from MicroSoft Word
-Make Target change its name because it sounds gun friendly
-Limit magazines to a 10 page capacity
-Restrict the use of phrases like “jumping the gun”
-Regulate the sale of all clips- paper clips, chip clips, etc.

I think it would be just as relevant and just as effective.

Banning guns will lead to the destruction of the USA. We want the people PROVEN not to be able to control speeding and our money to make addition control decisions for this country? People wishing to kill someone will find a way; we did it LONG before guns.
I think speed limits enforced could save many more people and save gas. “Kill” two birds with one plan.
Traffic fatalities, total Speeding-related fatalities by road type and speed limit Total Deaths United States 33,808
    Interstate
Total Over 55 mph At or under 55 mph
    10,591 964 287

    Noninterstate
    55 mph 50 mph 45 mph 40 mph 35 mph Under 35 mph

Why do you gun-lovers think us “liberals” are trying to ban guns? Educate yourselves before making ignorant comments about an agenda.

Snoopy353, because you liberals ARE trying to take our guns away. What don’t you get?

  15. Snoopy353
    January 17, 2013 at 12:50 pm

NOBODY is trying to take your guns away. All the legislation really entails is background checks, waiting periods and bans on certain assault rifles. How does that prevent law abiding citizens (like myself) from legally purchasing a handgun or shotgun for the home? IT DOESN’T! I don’t even have a problem with concealed weapon permits as long as you take a proficiency exam to demonstrate you know what the hell you’re doing. Look at how much trouble you have to go thru to obtain a driver’s license. Is it because cars are evil or intrinsically dangerous? NO! It’s because if you don’t know how to drive you are a danger to everyone on the road as well as yourself. What’s wrong with demonstrating you can operate a handgun?

Mike said “I think this is not a white trash repair and belongs elsewhere.”

I must disagree Mike. this is a perfect example of a white trash repair… or attempt at one. What is a WTR other than a flawed attempt to patch over a problem with whatever tools and parts one has on hand? I personally think this is a perfect example of one.

Whether I agree with it or not is up for discussion still but overall I consider it to be just another coming of the same fake messiah. Rushing to do something, or at least look like they are, is standard political tactics. They have to make an effort and this is a way to do it while losing the least amount of campaign donors as possible.

So I will rate this as a WTR fail. It will do nothing for the problem.

There are 11 well armed men guarding obamas kids while at school. Are his kids more valuable than yours?

Good question Jack. If you have children, are they in as much danger as yours are because of who their father is?

If we want to end these school massacres, take down the ‘gun free zone’ signs, and replace them with signs that say ‘lawful concealed weapons allowed’.

I think this is shameful how so many are willing to let the government regulate there lives and make decisions for them. What happened to the spirit of independence, and self reliance?

Snoopy353, yes they are trying to take our guns. Are they going to? NO! But it is not from a lack of trying. I agree that the final cut they came up with is not too bad. But have you actually seen what they tried to get passed? There are a lot of very powerful anti-gunners that would like to see us stripped of our 2nd amendment rights completely. Below is a list of the rejected proposals from New Yorks newest “we are not trying to take your gun laws”. This was what the Liberals there wanted but then when it failed they didnt want the public to see what they were really going after. See Assemblyman McLaughlin page on facebook to see a copy of these proposed restriction and also a video showing the Dem’s asking that these no be made public….because “YES THEY ARE TRYING TO TAKE OUR GUNS”

    1. Confiscation of “assault weapons”
    2. Confiscation o ten round clips
    3. Statewide database for ALL Guns
    4. Continue to allow pistol permit holder’s information to be replaced to the public
    5. Label semiautomatic shotguns with more than 5 rounds or pistol grips as “assault weapons”
    6. Limit the number of rounds in a magazine to 5 and confiscation and forfeiture of banned magazines
    7. Limit possession to no more than two (2) magazines
    8. Limit purchase of guns to one gun per person per month
    9. Require re-licensing of all pistol permit owners
    10. Require renewal of all pistol permits every five years
    11. State issued pistol permits
    12. Micro-stamping of all guns in New York State
    13. Require licensing of all gun ammo dealers
    14. Mandatory locking of guns at home
    15. Fee for licensing, registering weapons

Calif Obama the 1st is only the latest in a long line of politicians that want to disarm the great unwashed masses. There was a plan from the Kennedy administration for complete disarmament. The problem they don’t seem to get is that they will only disarm HONEST LAW ABIDING CITIZENS not the ones that are actually doing the crimes. Look at Australia, since their national disarmament crimes there have gone up across the board. CRIMINALS WANT THE PUBLIC DISARMED!!! Sheep are the preferred target.
I think that the politicians should turn theirs in first as a gesture of faith in their policies.
