It’s called … cherry picker or similar. They don’t just do it for the hell of it. Most departments have a truck with a ladder. I’m betting this one has some form of winch to connect to the chair, for safe lowering down to the top of the truck, and then some other way to get the person off the truck. Seriously … this is NOT ‘white trash’, this is smart fire fighting.

Well what are you going to do if thete is a fire in the building and you are in a wheelchair on the second floor? Everyone knows you can’t take the elevator. It’s a set up rescue place so you don’t have to panic when everyone else is running down the stairs and out the building to safty!!! Just go to that spot and the firefighters are ready to save you. This is pretty cool!!! However I must admit it does look like white trash repair when you initially look at it; I was LMAO at first!

I used to volunteer for a disability charity, and we had a contingency drawn up with the Fire Service where each floors’ supervisor (me on the 2nd) would marshal wheelchair users at designated windows for turntable extraction in an emergency.
I admit it looks weird if you’re not in the business, but it’s the best way to evacuate a building with a high number of physically impaired occupants.

Notice writing is readable from outside to let firemen know where handicapped people need to be rescued.

Well darn, I never noticed something like that before and have been in an emergency where we had to evacuate down the stairs and I just carried a coworker who was in a chair, and another person carried his chair.
