it’s a grey water toilet.. it’s designed to save water. it’s not white trash, but actually forward thinking… lotsa them in Australia.

I saw that on Ask This Old House, it is a way to save water. You refill and flush the toilet partially with water used to wash your hands.

I say practical. Especially if you have one of those tumble weed homes.

This is a somewhat common thing. As Cableguy1000 mentioned above, it’s good for water conservation. But even more commonly it’s used for tight spaces. For instance I saw a Victorian home on a tv show that never had a bathroom upstairs. The owners found it inconvenient to have to go all the way down stairs to pee at night, but didn’t want to do a big renovation. The solution was to turn a small upstairs hallway closet into a quarter bath. Plenty of room for a standard toilet or sink, but not both. A set up like this was the solution.

It would be hard to sit on as it has no seat on it. It is a good idea for hand washing and small spaces.. Jails and prisons have setups like that but are stainless steel..

Impractical, seeing as I pee in the sink.

I work at a prison and this is how the toilets are inside the cells. it would be a good space saver for a small bathroom.

Y’all have obviously never been to Japan if you’re calling this redneck. Toilets with a sink above the tank are more common then not in private homes.
