Did they mount that fan into the ceiling?  I don’t see the stands feet.

    I don’t see why they didn’t just put the pedestal fan on the floor. 😉 🙂 😀 😛

    It looks like they mounted it by the air conditioner, which would circulate the cooler air and cool down the room faster. It wouldn’t work as good on the floor.

    This is actually pretty ingenious!

    1: To answer Bubbette’s question, they took the base off, and screwed it directly to the ceiling (see the silver spots in the left pic?)
    2: As BB mentioned, it was put where it was, to help expedite the room cooling of an older (much! probably 60’s or early 70’s) air conditioner.
