It looks like they mounted it by the air conditioner, which would circulate the cooler air and cool down the room faster. It wouldn’t work as good on the floor.

1: To answer Bubbette’s question, they took the base off, and screwed it directly to the ceiling (see the silver spots in the left pic?) 2: As BB mentioned, it was put where it was, to help expedite the room cooling of an older (much! probably 60’s or early 70’s) air conditioner.

Chandeliers are available in all kinds of styles, shapes and can be made from a variety of materials. Considering the function stated earlier on, Hunter ceiling fan will assist equally ac and home heating system of your property. If a shower is on the first floor, check the ceiling below.
