The cans are a low budget alarm system. At night, you pull a line of fishing string across the space where the window was. Then, you make sure it’s tied to the rack of cans…when a bad guy tries to get into the plastic, he will trigger the alarm by disturbing the cans (which should have some coins/nails/ball bearing inside).
