Its a good idea,I have a base made just for doing that.
I’ve done this a few times myself. Gotta make sure the table clamps the saw secure and be extra mindful of your fingers.
Even if he didn’t secure it right, it would just land on the ground. As long as your feet are far enough away, he probably wouldn’t get hurt.
Bolted a circular saw under a work bench before I bought a real table saw. Did what I needed it to do.

This is a fantastic idea! I worked with a crew from my church, and one of the guys set up a saw like this. No, it’s not ideal, but it works.
They used to make tables specifically for this, my dad has one from his dad, from a long time ago 😀
