“I was visiting my hometown and decided to take a cruise around on my dad’s bicycle. I saw this for sale on a lawn, and decided it was worth a cell phone photo. How often do you have the opportunity to snap up a wheelchair made with PVC pipes and green mosquito netting? Strange contraption, but I had to admire the craftsmanship.”

Actually that PVC piping and netting is s shower chair for a nursing home.. they dont usually have wheel chair wheels on it.. its so a person who can not stand still can shower and get fully cleaned up and the water ill be able to get to all parts of the body and be rinsed off properly.. Someone turned it into more of a wheel chair.. but thats what those are used for..
Tis a shower chair. its made that way because a metal one will do what when it is constantly getting wet…anyone…anyone?
I have seen these pvc wheelchairs before. They use them for the physically disabled kids at the pool to go in the zero entry so they don’t get left out and can play . There’s holes in the pvc to allow water in then drain. It’s actually a great gadget for kids with disabilities.
Since wheelchairs can cost hundreds of dollars, this fix is in a whole different league than the average ‘I saved $4’ fix featured on this site.
Doesnt appear it collapses too easy so you can toss it in the trunk. And most of the time, insurance takes care of any wheelchair you would need.
That’s not a redneck/homemade wheelchair, it’s made for use in a shower. I used one after orthopedic surgery last summer. Sorry to burst your bubble.
looks like it was originally one of those wheel chairs the YMCA uses to help people get into the pool. They transfer from their regular chair to this one and they are wheeled into the zero entry part of the pool so they can get out and play/do water aerobics.
Someone took one of those and turned it into this.
Great job though
it is a shower chair, used them before with mentally disabled clients who couldnt step into a shower
This is in fact a shower/water wheel chair. I have a newer version of this and they are seriously expensive!!
