Not sure what the point of this dangerous fix is. Stainless steel? For what?
Stainless steel makes a fantastic fire starter. Just touch it to a 9V battery, and blow on it, and you have a super hot furnace. This is NOT something I would want down there by my electrical cords, for ANY reason.

Don’t forget that little bits of steel will be attracted to any magnet (such as in your laptop fan motor) that comes close enough.
