“My fuel pump broke and it would be a few days till the new one would be in. I needed to mow the lawn so I figured gravity would work if I strapped the tank on top.”
please notice the opening on the top. gravity would only work while the siphon was active. seeing as how the tube would need constant suction to maintain the flow, this probably didn’t work, but was a photo oppertunity

the siphon would work, as long as the hose stayed down under the gas, i used to bench test snowmobile motors like this, worked like a charm.

Looks like it should work, but maybe a job for MythBusters.

Small engines do have fuel pumps.

No they don’t have fuel pumps it’s either engine vacuum or a carb diaphragm which even if it were busted, couldn’t allow the engine to operate due to way too lean a mix from the air leak

That looks like it might work on a short notice. BTW, got a cigarette?
