Why buy a pet when you can catch one running around your house? See those rich folks carry around those cute little dogs, white trash carry around cute big rats. Why spend money on a rat house when you can use your empty beer box.
First off, rats make great pets. Very loving and smart. Second boxes make great toys for almost all animals. Ratties will play on and in a box, sleep in it and gnaw on it to keep their teeth worn down.
Cats love boxes for the same reasons, except they claw them instead of gnawing them. Even dogs love a good box. Boxes are free if you recycle the ones you get all the time anyway and animals, for that matter kids, think they are the best toys ever.

Sorry, rats are filthy. They leave urine on almost everything. You want one, that’s fine, you keep it, but don’t try to make out like they’re wonderful pets. That’s how some exterminators FIND them! From their urine trail they leave behind, you can use a UV light and see it on the walls and stuff.
At first, I thought that was a popcorn machine in a theater or something, maybe using the box as a scoop or filling it up for a customer.

They were drinking Busch Light to save on money to buy the $250 Dre. Beats (the box in the background with the red headphones).

Wow, you have very little knowledge of rats or pets in general. Yes rats do mark, they leave tiny amounts of urine as a trail to mark out ‘safe’ paths. Maybe that sounds really gross to you, but you’ll never see it, smell it, or feel it.
If you really are disgusted by that, then you must really hate cats who mark far more and theirs is visible, stinks, and leaves wet spots. In fact cats are the worst for marking of any common pet. Dogs do it as well… in fact I don’t know of any animals that don’t do it to one extent or another, including people. Want to turn that UV light on your undies?
All of that said, that’s why you should keep all pets off of furniture and counters, like those cats that people let run all over there counter tops spraying everything including the food on the counter. And you should also always wash after handling animals.
Your complaint applies to all pets, not just rats. It’s just a fact of pet ownership, don’t like don’t have pets. But don’t try and make out like rats are so much more horrible.
BTW rats poop too. And they are wonderful pets, some of the very best. If you can’t handle marking or pooping I suggest you stick with “pet rocks”.
